Show The removal of the ugly libel suit of Miss Froetor against "Mutunl friend" Moulton, will probably enable the Tilton-Beechcr case to be tried on iU merits unprejudiced by the previous triul of any collateral case which might tend to impeach somo of the mo.it important witnesses. Though Mr. Beeeher's counsel have been foiled, doubtless through the adioitness of Butler, on their strong hand, their ense is morally ciivnthened by the repul t in the libel suit which removes a cloud from Beechcr'a character, and somewhat weakens Moulton a witness on tho main isnie. Miss Proctor's evidence not only fully vindicates vin-dicates herself, but shows tlnt bcr intercourse in-tercourse with Becchcr h:w been of the most guarded character, and that they had generally met in company with other friends, she only on one occasion baring been in his study for a few moments. Moulton 'a counsel stated that they had never expected to prove the main char,;e, but merely that it had been publisK-d by Moulton Moul-ton as heresay evidence. Mr. Beecber's trial is now in order. |
