Washington, 12 The secretary of the interior to-day decided that the bona fide owners and holders of patents pat-ents for lands located by the Chippewa Chip-pewa half-breed scrip certificates are entitled, upon surrendering these scrip patents and paying two dollars and a half per acre, to receive a new and unquestionable patent for then-lands. then-lands. The commissioner general of the land office i directed to issue the necessary instructions. This action is called forth by a decision of the supreme court of California that all patents founded on the location of said scrip in California are void on tlieir face, congress having made it applicable only to laniia eded by the Chippewa half-breed Indians. Secretary Secre-tary Delano's decision is a general appl cation, there being a large number num-ber ot similar cases in various western states and territories. |
