At the national tem-i tem-i perance convention to-day, a resolution resolu-tion that the women are entitled to the elective franchise, aud that the : convention lend its warmest effort to that end, was defeated 7S to 52. It was resolved that the time had arrived to more fully consider the relations of the national government and its responsibility re-sponsibility for the liquor traffic, and that the convention ask the next congress to prohibit tho manufacture and sale of all alcoholic beverages in the district of Columbia aud territories of the United States, and prohibit their importation from foreign countries, coun-tries, and requiro total abstinence on the part of all officials and subordinates subordi-nates in tho civil, military and jnavai services, and to adopt for the ra tifica-tion tifica-tion by the several states of the Union a constitutional amendment which shall make the traffic in alcoholic boverages illegal throughout the national na-tional domain. Anna Dickinson delivered an address, ad-dress, in which she said the crusades aud temperance meetings had very little effect, aud that political organizations organi-zations and political work was the only means for checking the evil. The convention adjourned sine die. |
