Anderson, bankrupt; report of the referee con-liniu-d and the bankrupt discharged. J. H. Beatly, Esq., filed his bond and took the BUitutory oath as regis ter in bankruptcy of the Third judicial ju-dicial dUtrict. The peeplo, etc. vs. John Bougan, convicted for larceny and manslaughter. man-slaughter. The prisoner, upon being askfd if he had anything to say why sentence should not le passed upon him. said in reganl to tho first conviction, con-viction, that he believed the jury who tried tho case was influenced in reu daring the verdict by prejudice ngainsl him, and ho would like anew trial; iu regard to the second conviction he stated that the jury had recommend-L-d hitn to the niercv ot the court. Justice Emerson sentenced Beegan to fifteen years' imprisonment in the territorial penitentiary on tho larceny conviction, and five years' imprisonment imprison-ment and $100 fine on the manslaughter, man-slaughter, the last named term to commence from the expiration of tho first sentence. Court adjourned till Saturday morning morn-ing at 10 o'clock. |
