Show ST. LOUIS. Acquittal Sniolde by a Young JLacly. St. Louis. 16. The case of John W. Wright, for forgery of Indian bounty warrants, closed yesterday by Judge Jones instructing tne jury that , under the evidence there could be no conviction. The. jury thereupon, without leaving their seats, rendered a verdict of not guilty. Two other cases against Wright, based upon the same grounds as this one, have been nolle prosequied. Mrs. E. L. Irwin, a highly respect able young widow lady of Hannibal, Hanni-bal, Mo., tied a clothes line around ber&elf and a little girl six years old, fastened the other end to a stake in the ground, and then took the child in her arms and deliberately walked into Bear creek, and both were drowned. Financial embarrasmeut and disappointment in love were understood un-derstood to bo the causes of the act. |
