Show Drugged and Robbed. Early yesterday evening sevoril men entered a Commercial street . saloon for the purposes of obtaining j some of tho malt beverage. They a l i down at a table socially, and the bcr ' being set out, quaffed the foaming! liquid with genuine relish. In a remarkably re-markably short time one of the party, a respectable gentleman of this oity, partially lost consciousness, when one of the others suddenly snatched tho stupid man's watch and chain, handod it to a well known rough named Bob McKennie, who rushed out of the saloon and up the street, while tho bar tender and others lustily shouted "stop thief!" Policeman John Smith met and stopped the fleeing man, when the latter drew a knife and endeavored to cut the officer, but Smith tripped his assailant, disarmed him, and then took him to the city jail. John Hart, one of McKennio's companions in the robbery, was also arrested and confined in jail. An examination showed that the man whom it was intended to rob had been drugged, a quantity of snuff having been thrown into the beer he drank. |
