The appropriation recommended is $33, 100,373, a reduction of $2S7,770 from lost year; $9,100,000 of that sum is for railrui mnil pprvice, $6 000,073 for inland mttil transportation, and $I7,2oO,000 for pay ol postmasters. The bill provides that the postmaster general may appoint one agent to superintend the railroad postal service and one to superintend the Btar ser vice, '.and authorizes the postmaster general tore'uee the compensation to railroads for the transportation i f mails 5 per cent. A long and general debate was interrupted in-terrupted by the committee rising, and soon afterwards the bouse adjourned. |
