Six companies of cavalry and two of infantry hi.ve been ordered from the railroad to tbe base of the Black Hills, as an escort to Janney, the government geologist, who will make a survey of that country. They expect to leave Fort Laramie on the 15th. The government govern-ment is promptly apprised of tho many expeditions into this country and is prepared for them. Letters from Red Cloud agency show that the Indians are fully aware of all that ia being done in the matter-, -nd are much excited over it. The head warriors, who are really more powerful power-ful than the chiefs, are favorably inclined, in-clined, to disposing of the country be- j tween the two Cheyenne rivers for a good round consideration. In the event of its purchase the bead warriors war-riors will insist that the reservation i be removed to the head of Tongue river, at the base of the Big Horn mountains. The Indians are exceedingly exceed-ingly anxious that a Urge number of their head chiefs and warriors should go to Washington and ape the preei-i preei-i dent, and are pleased that the acent had been ordered to take them to Washington. |
