It a ee mutual mu-tual for a year past there ha been u ill-feelmg souring tbe mind ol on-GeorgeBoyd, on-GeorgeBoyd, a saloon keeper ;ii f.ith', against an old and well km u- neighbor and citizen, Joseph B mh on account of a lot claimed by B y t the title of which ho failed io gc. On various occasions Boyd has trri very abusive md threatened tbo life of Mr. Birch, (specially when in liquor. Mr. Birch entered oomplaint before a magistrate, and Boyd was placed under bonds for future good behavior. On Tuesday Mr. Boyd, again in liquor, renowed his abu e and drew a pistol, threatening tho life of Birch who withdrew iuto hie store, the shot from either parly having been firstmade without tflect. It is stated that as Birch entered his store Boyd, with a cocked pistol, attempted to pursue; then Birch drew a pistol, turned and fired. Boyd, stdl advancing, fired at Birch, who, at the second fire hit Boyd in tbe region of tbe heart, the latter called out "lake me borne; be has killed me." Boyd lived fully conscious till Wednesday morning and was buried to day. Tbe general feeling expressed justifies. Mr. Birch fully, be being a quiet, peaceful man, while the deceased de-ceased was just the opposite. Time and again within a year Mr Birch has walked away and left Boyd when he was quarrelous and several times he huB left tbe camp for a day or two mther than ha in the wav nf his ill temper. Mr Birch placed himself in I custody of tbe aberifl and is now undergoing under-going examination. Very little anxiety , is felt by bis friends and there is no doubt be will be acquitted with a verdict of justifiable homicide. Building has been going on at a lively rate for the last ten weeks, tbe most important of which and most worthy of note, are a large fire-proot warehouse by the firm of Jacobs & Saltan; a 30x50 two story addition to the Harrison House, (being now the finest lodging house in the camp); the Exchange saloon by Mr. Ike Fordonaki. (being tbe best appointed billiard and drinking saloon in town.) A great deal of improvement in old buildings has also been the order of the day, among which we notice the enlarging of Richards & Co's ice cream snlcon, eo that now, the "Sunny South" can indulge for the small sum of a quarter in as deliciouB a plate of ice cream as one would wish for. Mills and leaching works are doing finely and making large shipments ol bullion. Tona of fruit and vegetables in market. Weather warm but nights very pleasant. Another thing worthy of note is the new lumber yard nf Heckathorn & Miller who have already near a hundred thousand thou-sand feet of lumber on hand oi en route from the mills. No fightB, and considering the amount of liquor daily swallowed lew drunka. Sekja. |
