Show A convention of American merchants mer-chants and manufacturers will he held in Chicago next Tuesday lo devise ways and means to enlarge our foreign trade. Much good is expected to result from the meeting, as it is not understood to be in the interest of ship-builders and subsidies, the object being solely to deal with our navigation naviga-tion and tariff laws, which are pretty generally admitted to be the wortt in the world. If the convention can succeed iu bringing about a revision of these, our commerce and foreign trade will look out for themsel ves. . |
