Show Subsidies by Wholesale. Washington, 22. The bill introduced intro-duced by Senator Cockrell, to-day, to provide for the continuation and completion of certain trans continental conti-nental lines of railway, proposes a government guarentee of interest on fifty years 5 per cent, bonds to the amount of $25,000 for each mile of railroad to be constructed by the Red River and MiaB'seippi, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Vicksburg, Texas Pacifio and St. Louia Trans continental conti-nental R-iilroad companies, respectively respec-tively from Monroe to Shreveport, from Now Orleaus to Shreveport, from Fort Wor.tb to El Paso, and from Venita to Ei Paso. Public lands heretofore here-tofore granted to those companies are, by the terms of this bill, to be sold by government at double minimum rates, and the proceeds lo be applied to the payment of interest on the guarantee bonds, and the creation of sinking funds. It is also proposed to authorize the Southern Pacific Rail-road Rail-road Company of Arizona to extend its linc-8 from Fort Yuma to El Paso, without, whoever, granting it any government aid except the right' of way, and to grant the North Pacific Railroad ten years additional time for the construction of ita main line, eubject to all the terms and conditions ol its original charter and various supplemental supple-mental joint resolutions of congress. |
