Show City louncil. Meeting of the. city council, Tuesday evening, June 4ib, 187S, Mayor Little p'esidiug: A petition was received from Thos. V. Williams, a-kiug the council to 'du-e the filli: g up of a frog pond in iro.ii of his residence in the 12th ward, turner Fifth Eiat and Becond ou:li streets, aud that the street on the went trout be graded. A petition was receivf.d from nine persons, calling attention to the high water in a creek on Seventh West street and asking that a ditch be made on First South street near Seventh West, to carry off and pre vent the high water mentioned from further damaging crops thereabouts. Thw petition was referred to the committee com-mittee on irriga'ion. A petition asking the privilege of leasing a piece of ground near the Warm springs bath bouse, to be used as a lime depot, was received from Gt)rge R. Jouea. The mayor was authorized to lease the ground for one ear. A petition was received from 1 Abraham Taylor, a resident of the i 12th ward, asking the -remittance of I niscii) uxes. Laid on the table to come up in the regular order of business. busi-ness. A petition was received from Seymour B. Young, askiog for the priviiegeof using a portion ofthestreet and bidewalk on Fourth EaatBtreet, on which to pile building material. The petition was granted under the usual restrictions. The report of the police court for the month ending May 31st, wa& presented, showing a trial of sixty cases, with fines amounting, in all, to $405. The report was accepted and the alderman's fees appropriated. appropri-ated. The marshal reported expense bills for the month ot May, amounting to $414.67, which sum was appropriated. Tue chief engineer ol the fire department rendered expense bills for toe fire department for May, amounting amount-ing to $118 60, which was allowed. The following bills were received and the amounts thereof appropriated: appropri-ated: To Wm. Hyde, for boarding ! prisoners 1,697 meals at 15c per meal $254.55; gas company, for street lamps, etc., $1,185.60; S. B. Young, for care of three inaaae patients, pa-tients, $79.05; police salaries for May, $992; J. A. Wright, for lighting lamps and guarding water tanks, $45; W. E. Long, janitor of oity hall, $30; W. R. AtkiL.8, lor work on Union square, $44; for collecting dog tax, $53; lor material for repairing the fire steamer and freight on the same, $46.66. ihe sum of $2S2.25 was also appropriated ap-propriated for tho redemotion of citv currency of 1866 and 1868. j Council adjourned till next Tuesday evening, at 7 o'clock. |
