Show A ketv kind of swindle, called the "Western hotel game," baa recently been expOBed tbrougb an accident. An interesting young lady of Boston, named Louisa Silvan, waa in the habit et inviting wealthy gentlemen, married or Bingle, to enter her room in the botel, and inducing them to diarobe, when she would obtain pea-aesaion pea-aesaion of their clothes and refuse to surrender them except in consider tiou ot a euqi of money. She some times threatened 10 alarm the house and prefer charges ngainsi her victim if he declined to comply with her re quest. A few days ago she thus en snared a highly respectable Boston lawyer, named Allen, and having succeeded in getting bis clothing locked it in a trunk. What means Bhe employed to induce bim to disrobe are not stated, and it ia perhaps well enough not to ask for particulars. Having made herself master of the situation, she modestly demanded $10,000, or she "would ring the bell and call the police." She finally fell in her price and accepted a $1,000 check. Promising to release bim on her return, re-turn, Bhe locked him in the room and departed to cash the check. The cashier of the bank being suspicious that Bomethiog was wrong, had Louisa held in custody until an investigation in-vestigation could be made. The keys of her room and trunk were found in her pocket, and the detectives proceeding pro-ceeding to the hotel, discovered Allen in undress uniform, nervously awaiting await-ing her return. The result is, Louisa is on the road to. the penitentiary, and the hotel game can hereafter be practiced only upon willing violims. |
