Show A Card. Salt Lake City, March 13, 1S79. Editor ll'rald: It has this dwy corns to my knowledge knowl-edge that one William Cox, who is trying to make a LiuinetB of keeping county paupers (and of course viiahee to get all bo can) is waking mte-ments mte-ments concerning the Catholic hospital hos-pital that are basely untrue and with out foundation in fact. Hisalatements that tbe Sisters in charge only keep patients bile their money lasts, then turn tbetn out, are a libel upon ttie lives of those ladle a rt flection ut Inaal n nnn I ha ultenrlini n rtir-m B Tbe Sisters have alwaya received and cared for any and alt persona, irrespective irre-spective of religion, who bave applied to them for aeaiotance. It is true they do not keep an aBylum for every tramp and pauper who may come along, and that they bave acted and do ask of Salt Lake county to pay an adrquate auiouut lor the board and medicines lor such persons. Tbe institution in-stitution bas no fixed income, tbe expenses ex-penses are necessarily considerable, and therefore It cou'd but reasonably be expected that they should, before receiving every one, ask of tbe authorities author-ities some relief. This tbey bave done, but that they ever turned away a single person until welt or for ill conduct and willful disobedience of tbe rules of tbe hospital, is a falsehood false-hood and one that I am unwilling to let pass without notice. I in .ike this statement in justice to the Sisters iu charge and also myself. J. M. Benedict, Surgeon in Charge. |
