Show Murder and Saicldo St. Louis, 17. A terrible tragedy waa enacted, at the Girard house, corner of Broadway and Biddie streets, shortly after 1 o'clock thiB afternoon. Joseph P. Colcord, at ono time a very promising lawyer and the prosecuting I attorney of one of our courts, and subsequently sub-sequently a member of the legislature, shut a woman, said to be his mistress, named Nettie Smith, with whom be was living at the Girard house, and tbeu shot himself. The woman received re-ceived three wounds, one directly through the body, near the stomach, one in tho hoad and a third in the shoulder. Colcord was hit in the' right temple. Both died almost instantly. in-stantly. Jealousy and whisky are thought to be the cause. Colcord was a very disreputable mau for many years, and it is stated forced hia wife to leave him, after which he took up with this woman. |
