Show Q. S. Geological Survey. Mijor Powell, the explorer of the the canons of the Colorado, sends one of tho divisions of his corps this Bum-mor Bum-mor into south-eastern Utab. Tho gentleman in charge, Prof. A. H. Thompson, is now in the city with a number of bii colleagues, and atarts to-morrow morning for Gunnison, where the final preparations for the campaign will be made. The party will include five topographers, two geologists, and the necessary packers, etc. The geologists are Captain Dut-ton, Dut-ton, an officer of the U. S. ordnance bureau, and Mr. Gilbert; the topographers, topo-graphers, Messrs. Graves, Renshaw, Whcolor and Bell. ProfessorThomp-sou, ProfessorThomp-sou, besides directing the whole work, will give his attention specially to tlio triangulation. Mr. Hillers will accompany ac-company as photographer. Tho district dis-trict to bo surveyed lies entirely east . of the settled portions of Utah, and extends to the Colorado river. It includes in-cludes the divide between the east fork of the Sevier riveraud the tributaries tribu-taries of the Colorado, tho'Escalante, Dirty Devil, and Price rivers; and the Henry mountains. It is expected that tho party will remain in the field three mouths spending nearly all of that time outside the eel tied portion of the territory. |
