Show The Western Union Telegraph company is, we learn, not responsible for the quantity or quality of the news furnished the press of this city. It simply contracts to furnish tho newspapers here with copies of tho despatches to the associated press papers in San Francisco. Those journals seem to be satisfied with an interior service, and we have no right to complain. But as newspapers they cannot afford to be twenty-four hours behind tiie times, as they were in publishing the president's third term letter, or to ba ignored altogether, as tin y were in regard to the break-up in the New Hampshire senate a week sinco. Let .us pray that under the postal telegraph service our present uncertain system of news gathering may be superceded by something cheaper and better. |
