Show Ice Cream Reception.' Ono ol the most pleasant aociables ever held in this city was the icecream ice-cream festival tendered to Hon. George Q. Cannon last evening, by tha ladies of tho Fourteenth Ward, in the Ward Hall. Tbe lateness of thc: hour at which tho festival closed prevents pre-vents our making an extended notice Tho gentleman iu whoso honor the. festival was given was present and in oxcellcnt Bpirils; and in a brief address ad-dress acknowledged the joy which the occasion gave him. A number of the church authorities, amoug them Presidents Young and Ceo. A. Smith were also present, and each made short speeches. Several ladies also mado appropriate addresses; and songs and recitations added to the pleasure of tho numerous guests. During the eveniug a line summer hat, the handiwork'ol Miss Peart and Mrs. Wilkinson, was presented to Mr. Cannon, as was also an elegant cake, bearing complimentary mottoes. mot-toes. Tbe ladies did themselves great credit in carrying to such a successful success-ful termination the festival; and wc doubt if Mr.Cannon has spent a more pleasant ovoning for some ti mo than that of last night. |
