Show "Walking John" an 1 "Irish Girl." Messrs. Stulloy it Brown have accepted ac-cepted the challenge of Mr. Pat Moran, to run his mare "Irish Girl" against Kitchen's "Walking John," and name iu the Hesald this morning, morn-ing, 880 yards as the distance (o be run, and $5,000 as tho stakes; they also state thai they have deposited at Wells, Fargo fc Co.'s bank, $1,000 as a forfeit. This is becoming be-coming interesting, and the action of Messrs. M. &. B. looks decidedly as though they meant business on the "put up or shut up" principle. Now that tho gauntlet , which Mr. Moran threw down has been taken up, it remains for him to come to the front and delcnd his colors, which ho doubtless w il do. Few running horses in America to-day, can beat cither "John" or "Girl" over their distance.and neither the owners of thoso flyers nor the numerous friends of each, will be satisfied until it has been definitely settled which is the fastest. Should the race bo run, which now appears will be the case, sonic ot the swiftest flying ever seen on the Utah turf may be anticipated. |
