Show J LETTER FROM OPfHR. ( The Mines Dancing Mania A j Female Bruising Match The ( Wea1 her Pneumonia, j Hptoial Cor responds e6 of the DtaiLD. j Oi hir Citv, February 24, 1874. I have again visited Dry Canon and ! gave the various mining properties a i pretty thorough examination. Amongst the most prosperous, and one of the best developed mines of in tho camp is the Chicago, which has lately developed a huge body- of GOO-ounce ore, and the body ol ore bteadily increases, both in size and value. The body of ore which lately late-ly paid on an average of but 40 or. to the ton, now pays 1U0 or., to the ton. The next mine in value is the Mono, celebrated far and wide. Tlie company aro now taking out 10 Ions daily, of very rich ore, rather better in grade, if that is possible, than any ore they have ever before taken out of the mine. This mine has been so much written about that I can tell nothing more of it th:m that it sustains sus-tains itf character us being the best mine in Utah. The Hidden Trc;iniirc stands next as an ore producing mine, and bids fair to come up with ttie best in the country, 'fhey have now Itit'eetof ,1 breast of ore in the bottom of their incline, and are sending ofl'-S tons of ore per day. It is so-called low grade ore, but low asitniny be called it runs up to 80 oz. per ton. The Kearsargc comes next, and, so far as the "'spondulicks" are concerned, concern-ed, this mino is ju-tf about as good as any mine in the camp, excepting, of course, the Mono. Tire ore from the Kearsage runs very high, there being no low grade ore in tho mine. . I was informed by the superintendent that a lot of ore, estimated 50 tons, wliich 1 saw in the ore house, would sample Jf'AH) per ton. Tho next one which I saw was tlie Magnolia, now owned by a live company. They have struck a very ricii body of ore, alxxit three feet thick, with every indication oi neing a irue vein, lue oia company worked three years " coyoting " around the side of the mountain, spending several thousand dollars, and developing absolutely nothing. The Kvcuing Star, now being worked, shows a very large body of rich ore at a depth of 100 f eet, and promises, during the coming Summer, Sum-mer, to take a place in the front rank amongst the ore producing mines ol the camp. The Scottish Chief Tbis mine has been lying idle lor over a year, bin is now working with tlie very best results. re-sults. There is now a body of galena ,orc in the vein, live feet thick, of ivory high grade. The ore hereto-j hereto-j torn has been rendered useless by ttie preso ice of iron pyrites, which, combined com-bined witti sulphur, compelled the owners of tiie mine to throw away tho product of tho mine, as the smelting works could not use it; but in working work-ing tho last twenty feet of incline the ore has, in a great measure, become 1'repot' pyrites and sulphur. The most recent rich strike h6 been made in tho Indicator; owned by Lawrence A. Brown; and here let me say that ho certainly deserves a good thing. This mine has opened out into a body ot quart, thirty feet j thick, co nt lining chloride of silver and no base ore whatever. Sampling acrow the face, a distance of thirty feet, if;;? per ton, with a continual increase in-crease ot vuluc. Tlie incline is forty feet deep. The vein is a true fissure. In couebtjuence.qft.hia streak of goal luck, our friend L. A. Brown, can be : seen at any time during the day, be- ! tween the hours of 7 o'clock a.m. 1 and y o'clock p.m., up on ttie nideol the hill standing ou his left ear. Thin camp has bocu visited with a mania for d.inciug, consequently all through the late severe weather the dancing hall hta been called into requisition re-quisition almost every night. Numerous Num-erous balls have to use a common phrase, "come on," where-1 the boys and girls haw -nightly congregated congre-gated and ''slung the light fantastic." A few nights ago, two of the "ladita" who were not on the best of terms, mctiitoucof these social reunions, and immedi:itely commenced calling each other hard names. From violent vio-lent words tiny went to violence of annthcr sort, and for a few moment-I moment-I the air was full of demoralized ehig-!non ehig-!non and other femaic curiosities. In I due time the belligerents were separated separ-ated iTftfl the ball went on. Tlie weather h;is been unusually 'severe lately. A storm of snow and Iwind lias raged almost continuously for ten days. The trails are impossible, imposs-ible, and the hombre that walks over I the mountain from Dry Canon to this city, has, a-s a general thing, a very 'lai'-ieaiid commo'lious appetite, and tiie hotel keepers dou't rusii out into 1 the & to mi to urfae him to stop al their j houses. The disease known as pneumonia, I which lately paid tho camp a very unwelcome visit, has almost entirely disappeared, and again ye poor miner breathes freely. The fear of death has pussjd away from his memory, and he can now take his usual dose of "tanglefoot" without a qualm of conscience. con-science. FjVKNiSM". |
