Show The Turf. Chicago, 24. This was the last day of the second Summer meeting at Dexter Park, and some interesting races were run. The weather -was threatening and the track in rather low condition, but nearly 4,000 people witnessed the Bport. The first race was for the three-minute three-minute class trotting, for a purse of $1,600 to the first, $250 to the second, and $150 to the third. Eight started. "James Howell, jr.," won, "Little Jake" second, "George F." third. Time, 2:31, 2:27. 2:31, 2;S2. The second race, trotting for a premium of $2,500; the 2:20 class; $1,600 to the first, $600 to the second, $300 to the third; mile heats; best three in five, in harness. Four started, "Red Cloud" won in three straight heats, "Gloster" second, "St. James" third, "Nettie" last. Time, 2:20 2:24, 2:21 i. The third race, running, for apurae of $1,000; $(150 to the first, $250 to the second, $100 to the third; all ages; two mile heats. Four started. "Falmouth" won in two straight heats, "Rocket" second, "Captain Hitch" third. Time, 3:47, The last race, about 200 feet less than a mile and three quarters,single dash; "Gleaner" won. To-morrow "Goldsmith Maid" and "Fullerton" trot against time. Th best time ever made on the track was 2:17J. |
