Show ST. CEORGfi, The Graud Gulch Mining Company. A DelJghiral and Healthy Climate. Sr. George, Utah, Oct. 21, '75, Editors Hcndd: Two days ago, by tbe politeness of Col. Dupaix.of Minersville, we stepped into his carriage, with other gentlemen, gentle-men, to visit the Grand Gulch company's com-pany's smelters, about two miles away, across tho Virgen, iu fair sight from our grounds. The sloek and muscular bays rapidly took ua along past the temple, where a strong corps of hands wero laying the roof, and in thirty-fiTo minutes we stepped out in front of the smelter, a well made structure of a capacity oi five tons of bullion per day. Here wo found Mr. Ramsey, the expert and smelter, busily fitting tbe bottom of the furnace fur-nace and making the necessary preparations pre-parations for an early start (in two weeks) of fires and bullion. They have a fine boiler and engine, set and all in order; well dug and walled; a smith shop, and bank of coal, and now only await getting in the fire brick-and arrival ot ore from the mine. Teams have been Boveral days gone to bring it in. The smelter and buildings occupy a convenient and commanding position, well planned 1 and convenient. Great hopes are entertained en-tertained of success, and indeed, we bco no reason why at the first start success should not attend. In case it I works all right, tho company will require re-quire 100 teams, together with other help proportionate, to haul ore, bullion bul-lion and coal, and to do the necessary labor around the furnace, all of which will make money matters livoly here, and labor and produce in demand. We have as yet no frost, but nights are cool and dayspleaaant. On Saturday evening next Manager Brunch, with the dramatic association , gives an entertainment in the basement base-ment of the tabernacle, for the benefit of our Sunday school, and another entcrtainr.iont on the Saturday evening even-ing following. There iB great demand for building material odobies, lumber and workmen, work-men, and a very short supply at good prices. Wine and molatses making aro Btill progressing. Mrs. Judge Spicer, together with other ladies and gentlemen from Beaver and Minersville, Miners-ville, mado us a visit last week, and have juat returned. |
