Show City Council. Meeting of the City Council, Tuesday Tues-day evening, Mayor Wells presiding, Petition of Samuel Hart, asking the Council to lease to him a portion of the market lot for a vegetable stand was received and laid on the table. Petition of Dr. Plant to move his city tcuancty on the market lot to the front lino of said lot was laid on the table. Petition of Levi Garrett, asking the privilege of occupying three feet of thp sidewalk for two days, for the purpose of exhibiting a hog, was not granted, but the petitioner was granted tho privilege of exhibiting his hog on the market lot. Petition of Amos Fielding and others asking the privilege of cutting a ditch on Fifth West street, for draining the south west part of the Fifth ward, was referred to the Committee on Streets and Alleys. Petition of Levi Miller asking the privilege of taking water from the sec on First East street, for tho purpose. pur-pose. of sprinkling the streets, was granted, xuider the direction of the city water master, providing the petitioner gets the consent of the property prop-erty owners adjoining the said sec. Petition of H. A. Messenger, saloon keeper, asking that his license fGes for twelve days the length of time during which his saloon was closed for repairs be remitted, was granted. Petition of J. C. Conklin, asking the privilege of putting in a switch from the Utah Southern railroad between be-tween Second and Third South streets to the old H. S. Jacobs & Co., sampling samp-ling works, was granted under the direction of street supervisor. Petition of the property owners on Fourth East street, south of Third South street, asking that petition of Luko Voorhces and others, praying that said street be thrown open as a free driving avenue be granted, was received and filed with the report of the committee, to whom was referred Voorhces, petition. The report will be found below. Petition of Henry Wagner and twenty-six others, saloon keepers, asking that the ordinance be amended amend-ed so as to allow saloons to be kept open till 11 p.m., was received and laid on the table. Petition of W. H. Newman, asking that the unexpired term of his license be transferred to C. B. Durett, was granted. Petition of J. Midgcly and thirty-four thirty-four others, asking that Fifth East street, between Second and Third South streets, bo repaired, was referred re-ferred to the Committee on Streets and Alleys. Petition of A. M. Musser and thirty-five others, asking that the side walk on the north side of South Temple street from Eas t Temple street to tho U. C, d epot be graded and that wooden walks bo laid across the streets intervening, was referred re-ferred to the Committee on Streets and Alleys. Petition of Joseph H. Felt and eighty-tlirce others, asking that First South street be graded from the street railroad to the water sees, was referred re-ferred to the Committee on Streets and Alleys. Tho City Marshal was authorized to contraot with G. Showell for catching unregistered dogs found in the city, and lor keeping them one week before be-fore killing them. Petition of tho Direitors of the D. A. t M. Society, asking the privilege of fencing in the sidewalk on the south side of Agricultural Park, for the purpose of protecting trees to be planted on the line of the sidewalk, was granted during tho pleasure of the Council. The Supervisor of Streets was instructed in-structed to put wooden walks across tho streets west and north of the Kim bad Block. Tho committee to whom was referred the petition of D. It, Patten 4 Co., asking that the license fees bo reduced, recommended that it be not granted. Report adopted. The committee," to whom was referred re-ferred the petition of Louis Stocn and others, butchers, asking that butchers' license fees be reduced, recommended recommend-ed that the ordinance be amended so as to charge butchers license fees of $50 per annum instead of $100, as at present. Heport referred to the committee com-mittee on Municipal laws with instructions in-structions to report a bill for an ordinance ordi-nance in accordance with the report. The Committee on Improvements submitted a plan for an extension to the city jail, and an estimate of the cost ofsaid improvement. The estimated esti-mated cost of the proposed extension was $5,600. The report was referred back to the committee, with instructions instruc-tions to continue their labors, make specifications according lo tho ptan, and invito bkU for building the extension. ex-tension. The committee to whom was referred re-ferred tho netition of Lukes Vonrhnos and twenty-nine others, asking that Fourth East St.sonth of Tbirdsouth be thrown open as a free carriage drive, recommended that the prayer of the petitioner be grunted. Society asking the control of certain streets in agricultural park, recommended that the prayer of the petition with the exception, of certain portions of Ji inth West street be granted. Report adopted. The City Marshal and Chief Engineer En-gineer presented his report of the expenditures ex-penditures in thoJQ departments, s:M7.5U, for the month ending Maroh 31st. Referred to the Committee on Claims. The police bill for tho month of March, amounting lo $1,147, was presented and amount appropriated. William Hyde's bill lor boarding city prisoners during the month of March, 2977 meals at fifteen cents per meal, $110,55, was allowed and amount appropriated.
