At a business meeting meet-ing of Plymouth church, Brooklyn, last evening, the names of Deacon West and Mrs. Moulton were dropped from the roll of membership, on tbe ground of their continued absence from the services of tbe church. Deacon West was not present, but Mrs. Moulton was, accompanied by Counsel Roger A. Pryor, who read a protest signed by Mrs. Moulton, which closed as follows: "My absence io an enforced one, and is caused by the crimo of adultery, committed by Henry Ward Beecher, pastor of tlie church, with one of his , parishonere, which I know to be a fact, through Beecher'g confessions to me, and through Iho confessions of Mrs. Til-ton, Til-ton, and through conclusive evidence of the crimo from other sources. I appear before this church in obedience to the summons which I have received, and I hereby declare my disposition and desire to discharge all the duties devolviug on me as a member, that are consistent with my knowledge of the adultery of the pastor, and his false swearing in regard to it." Ihe New Y'ork and Brooklyn association asso-ciation of Congregational ministers has taken action, it is alleged, which will certainly revive the Beecher scandal. A committee of its members mem-bers has been appointed and instructed instruct-ed lo report, after careful examination examina-tion of Iho charges, whether the association asso-ciation ought to retain Beocher in membership. It was said last evening even-ing that Beecher would withdraw from the association rather than submit sub-mit to an investigation. |
