Show Men, Not Money. Salt Lake City, Jan. 16, 1871. Editors Herald; In rending the report of the meeting meet-ing in Hussey's hall, I was reminded that my little education was had in the good New England school of republican re-publican liberty, where Men, not Money, claimed to vote. But the dominant party of the nation is so loaded with new departures, amendments, amend-ments, etc., that I almost lose Bight of old land-marks. . In trying to follow the sense of the meeting to its sequence, I am forced to inquire of you if Vanderbilt and Jay Gould resided here with Hon. W. Jennings, would Salt Lake City be entitled to much more than three votes? Respectfully, A Resident over twenty-six years. We shoqld be inclined to imagine, under the case supposed, and on the principle advocated on Wednesday night, that a vote and a half would be as much as the balance of Salt Lake would be fairly entitled to. Of course, then, the city would be immeasurably im-measurably in the minority. |
