Show The Jury Question. The Herald, some time since, expressed ex-pressed a willingness to lay before the public the views of diflerent in-, in-, dividual regarding statutory amendments amend-ments which should be made by the Territorial legislature at its coming scssiuu. Judge Snow furnished two articles on the subject, upon which we publish this morning, some strict-ures strict-ures by Capt.Thomas H. Bates. While we do not endorse the Captain's views we give them space, wishing to have the matter thoroughly before the peoplo and the Legislature when it sluvll meet, as we believe amendments should be made to our present laws, and new ones should be enacted. Captain Bates, it will be seen, is opposed op-posed to the present jury system, but he fails to indicate a better one, which wc shall in future request our corre- i ppondents to do. j |
