Last night Mr. James Townsend gave a complimectaiy ball and supper sup-per to the employes of .the hotel, the aflair being as pleasant and enjoyable as it was indicative of the liberality of the proprietor and the good feeling existing between him and his hired help. The ball w'as given in the large and elegant dining hall, which was decorated Jor the occasion; and an excellent band of music was in attendance. We noticed with much pleasure Mr. & Mrs. Townsend opening op-ening the ball, and their courteous and constant attentions to those whom they had made their guests for the evening; and all seemed to eujoy themselves In the heartiest manner. The supper, which showed a most excellent ex-cellent cuisine, was served in the fine little anti-room to the dining hall, and furnished the motive power to keep up the hilarity of the occasion to ajate hour. Mr. Cunningham, the steward, and Mr, Burnhani, the clerk, were attentive to the numerous guests of the hotel, who " "jGa " on the interesting occasion.
