Tho Evening Journal's Jour-nal's Washington Bpecial says of the report of the Poland committee: The roport liuds that tho members of oon-gresd oon-gresd implicated were bona fide purchasers, pur-chasers, and not borrowers of money; that the investment was made without the knowledge ol the motives of Ames, and solely as an investment, and that nj member holding stock was influenced influ-enced in his action by the fact of his ownership, or by any improper motive. Tho committee consider that Ames judged rightly in believing evory man could watch his own interest better than that of other people. The Credit Mobiiier is denounced as a gigantio swindle. All the members of congress, except Ames and Brook3, aro represented repre-sented as merely to have not been sutlieicntly careful about investments; they are otherwUo exculpated. They, however, report a resolution expelling Brooks and Ames. Tho samo special says, yesterday, judo Poland, under instructions from his committee, examined Colfax's bank account subsequent to Juno 22d, and discovered the deposit of the draft from Coorgo P. Nusbkt, July 13th. Cultax has written to the committee, stating that by tho advice of his counsel coun-sel ho had not mentioned that depooit in bis rcjnt testimony. |
