Show NORTH CAROLINA. The official voto of North Carolina, for governor, at tho late election, is at last received. It in probably the largest larg-est vote ever cast in the Slate, as it is the closest, the Republicans polling fJS,594, while the Conservatives polled 06,679, giving Caldwell a majority of 1,945. The Republicans never had as Urge a vote at any previous election, yet their gains were not near so great as those mado by the Conservatives. A few figures will show this. In 1SGS out of a total vote of 165.S29, for governor, gov-ernor, the Republican vote was 92,235, with a majority of IS, 641. At the Presidential election the same year the entire vote was about fifteen thousand larger, being 1S0.31G, of which the Republicans had 96,226; but their majority ma-jority was reduced to 12,136. In 1ST0, on the election of the State attorney general, there was a full vote of 171, 075, the Republicans only polling 83,427, and losing the election by 4,221, Ehowing that the party did not pul forth its full srtength, and this was th( t result of local causes. Last year, out ol an entire vote of 1 82,259 , on the questioi of adopting a new constitution, the Republicans again carried the State, polling a vote of 95,252, and having e majority of 9,215. The Conaervativt votes for the past four years have been in 1S63, for governor, 73,594; forPresi dent, 84,090; in 1870, for attorney gen era, 87,648; in 1871, for tho coostitn tioD, 87,007 ; in 1872, for governor 96,679. This is an increase, muci more rapid than that made by thi Republicans, and shows that Nortl Carolina, which has been Republicai since 1S67 with the exceptien of th one vote, and that a light one, of 1871 is now the closest State in the Unioi population being considered. Should the same growth for both parties continue, and each put forth their full strength, it should givo Greeley in November, a majority of over two thousand. These figures and this calculation cal-culation do not tako into consideration the charge of negro voters having been run into border counties during the late election, nor the alleged frauds in several parts of the State, where it is held that more votes were polled than the entire adult male population would foot up. |
