Show ST. SIAHK'I HOSPITAL. The following reports of the surgeon and treasurer of St. Mark's Hospita will be read with interest : To tho Hon. Board of Trustee of Sl Mark's Hospital. Gentlemen. I have the honor to report that, pine the opening of St. Mark's hospital, on the thirtieth day of" April. a2, the whole number of patients received and treated amounts to one hundred and sixteen. Of this umber one hundred and fifteen were ajaJea and one female. Ninety-six ! have been discharged well or improved. There hava been thirteen deaths, and eiifht patients remain under treatment. Of tho whole number treated twenty-nve twenty-nve have been surgical cases, and ninety-one medical. The mortality daring this time has hceo a fraction over eleven per cent: This may considered very Bmall, when we take into consideration that lour consumptives were admitted, three of mem Deing in tne last stages of the disease, and dying within a few days, Thee last, with a few others, were admitted without hope of being oured, but with the view to make them more comfortable, most of them being both homeiesa and penniless. It is gratifying to be able to state, that notwithstandinjt our wards are small, and the most of the time crowded, diseases dis-eases apt to be engendered in hospitals, particularly in surgical wards, have not made their appearance. Medical men, familiar with like institutions, and visitors from our own city, aro impressed im-pressed on visiting 8t. Mark's hospital, with the absence of sights and odors to which hospitals are liable. It is also very encouraging to note that as the hospital is becoming more ttcncrally known, applications for admission ad-mission are more frequent; so much so, that of late we arc almost daily compelled com-pelled to deny admissions. To this fact, I beg most respectfully to call your attention, in tho hope that some plao or measures may be devised to enlarge OU7 capacity. To the medical profession of Salt Lake city I desire to extend my thanks, lor their valuable suggestions and assistance as-sistance in the treatment of many critical eaes. All of which is most respeotfully submitted. J. F. Hamilton, M. D., Surgeoo-in-charge. Salt Lake City, Nov. 1st, 1872.
