L, Sanders, constable con-stable of Bingham precinct, he was called upon to arrest two men engaged in a difficulty, named James Riley and Andrew Townluy. Both appearing very boisterous and desperate, the constable con-stable found it necessary to hand-cuff and confine them in an unoccupied house belonging to Mr. Samuel Buck. While confined there, and during their trial, they were aided to escape through a back window, by one Christian Yan-eon, Yan-eon, who also furnished a pistol (six-shooter) (six-shooter) to Riley for the purpose, as afterwards appeared, of killing the officer. offi-cer. Thty were overtaken by Mr. Sanders and re-arrested. Riley having hav-ing the pistol in bis hand, he was at once disarmed by tho officer and brought back to court. Judge Kinney ordered him (otficer) to subpeena two witnesses. While in the discharge of this duty he was attacked between the court room (Buck's house) and tho main hotel, in the precinct known as the Dickson house, by Christian Yansoo, who demanded the pistol taken Jrom the escaping prisoner, Riley, using the following language: "You a d son of a b h, give up that pistol or I will kill you, I den't care if you are an officer." Mr. Sanders theo retreated, followed by Yanson, who overtook him in Mr. Ferguson's saloon, when he fired on the officer at a distance of about ten feet, Mr. Sanders then ro-lurncd ro-lurncd his firo,- giving him, it is supposed, sup-posed, a mortal wound. He then retreated re-treated from the saloon to tbo rear ol' llorria & Goddard's store bouse, followed fol-lowed by Yanson, keeping up a constant con-stant fire. When behind the store h'ouse the officer again returned the Lire, and Yanson fell dead. Mr. Sanders returned and reported to the court, and at tho same time surrendered himself. There was iome difficulty in keeping the court together under the excitement; however, three special constables wero sworn in and order was restored. After the trial of Riley and Tow nicy and the jury had returned their verdict, they (the jury) were retained by the court to meet at 10 a.m. on the 9th, to attend tho inquest on the body of Yanson An examination was made by D. Hickman and verdict returned accordingly. A new jury was immediately cmpan-nclcd cmpan-nclcd to try the officer, and after a most laborious iuvcbtigatioo, returned a verdict in accordance with the foregoing fore-going facts: To wit, that said Yanson :anie to his death by pistol wounds in-fl in-fl ctcd by S.
