Show That Interlineation. The interlineation inter-lineation on the writ of certiorari, sued in behalf James Turbett, and of which the Herald yesterday morn ing said that it was apparently in a different handwriting from the rest of the chiro-graphy chiro-graphy in the instrument, was written by Mr. McCarthy, one of tho counsel for Turbett, who filled out the writ ready for the signature of the clerk. The apparent difference of penmanship penman-ship was owing to the part in question having to be written smaller, as there was but limited space for it. And we may add, that the seeming difference was greater in the copy which was examined ex-amined by us than in the original, which governor Johnson showed us yesterday. yes-terday. So much in justice to Mr. McCarthy. With regard to Turbett'a course in the matter of keeping his saloon open ! on Sunday, we are authoritatively informed in-formed that he did so! contrary to the : legal advice of governor Johnson, his ! prinoipal attorney, and was the only , one of the governor's clients who did so. He had also promised his counsel that he would not open, yet did no in violation of that promise and contrary to the advice given him. |
