Show Small-Pox. For 6ome days past a little child, aged six or eight months, of George Crockwell's, has been sick, as the family supposed, with Ecar-letina; Ecar-letina; but the child had become so covered with pustu'es that it caused the parents to send for the quaiantine physician, who vUited it yesterday and pronoucoed tho disease small-pox of a very eevere character. A large number num-ber of the neighbors have been in to see the child, thinking the disease wa, as Dr. Crockwell stated, scarletina, therefore it is probable there may be other cases in that vicinity soon. The parents live in the 9th ward, on 4th East street, between 5th and 6th South streetf. A obild of Mrs. Burns', of about the same age, also has the disease; and, wo learn from tho quarantine phjaician, will probably not recover. It seems time that the quarantine regulations reg-ulations were strictly enforced. Tho spread of tho disea-ve may be stopped if this is dens, but sbou'd places where tho eontagion exists be free to all persons per-sons who may be so foolish as to knowingly know-ingly enter, or unawaro of its existence exis-tence there; and should those thus exposed ex-posed visit freely subsequently the business bus-iness portion of tho city, as was the case yesterday, there is no knowiDg how serious the results may be. This is a matter which claims prompt and energetic attention. |
