Tho fourth ward gives Buckalew 780 majority. - Pittsburg, 8 Hartranft has a majority in Alleghany county of 5,474, an increase in-crease over the vote of 1871 of 1.716. Election passed quiely, A very large vote was polled in Ihocity, To-night an immense concourse in the streets awaiting despatches. The following private dispatches are received here : Indianapolis, 8, p.m. Very little reliable re-liable news yet with a few returns from email precincts. Two precincts in St. Joseph give a Republican gain of 121. 1 Oni precinct in Ailen county gives a Democratic gain of 21. There are other small gains on both aides. Souiu Bend, 8, 8:45 p.m. South Bend returns are complete. Governor Brown's majority iB 200, being 23 Republican Re-publican gain from October 1868, and 132 Republican gain from October 1870. Chicago, 8. A private dispatch from Indianapolis, at 9 p.m., says until the vole is counted the result in that State is a mere guess-work on account of the extraordinarily large vote polled and the extreme length of the ticket, which contains 140 names and makes the work of counting so slow that it will take ail night to count the vote. In SL Joseph county in one precinct, Brown's majority is 207, a Republican gain on the vote of 1870 of 105; in White River township, Randolph county, Brown has 396 majority, a gain of 61; in New Hnvon, Allen counly, Hendrick's majority is 110, a Democratic gain of 21. New Y'ork, 11 id night. Returns from Indiana come in very slowly, and so far are favorable to the Democrats. Indianapolis, 8. The returns come in slowly. In about thirty towns and townships heard from the Republicans gain 800. In Randolph county Browue's majority is estimated at 1,800, a gain of 500. In Richmond cily, the Democrats gain 133; in Concord township, Llkbarl county, the Republicans gain 127; in Cambridge city the Republican gain is IS. Chicago, 9, 1:30 a m. A private dispatch dis-patch from Indianapolis, at 1 a.m., says there is nothing at this hour to indicate the re;ult on ihe State ticket. The Republican Re-publican Slate commillee claim the State by 3,00J; the Democrats are equally equal-ly sanguine. Gov. ilorton regards the result as doubtful. The State and district Democratic and Liberal conventions con-ventions closed with the united nomination nomina-tion of Amass Sprague, James Y. Smith. Charles R. Culler and Harris Lamp near lor Presidential electors, and Thomas Davis and colonel George H. Brown for oongress. Nebraika Gone Republican, Omaha, 8. The election passed off quietly. A full vote was polled, and the Republican State and congressional ticket is elected by about 6,009. This Douglass county, which may be considered con-sidered the Liberal Btronghold, gives a Republican majority of about 100. Suffering! of a Shipwrecked Crew, Boston, 8. A letter received here sta'.es that the ship " Golden Hind," of this city, was lost on June 24th, about ten miles north of Cape Gloucester on Charles Island. The crow took to the boats in charge of the captain and two mates. The boat in charge of tho second mate, with six seamen, has not been heard from since, and it is supposed swamped soon after leaving the ship. The captain's boat capsized and the compass com-pass and all provisions and clothing were lost. They finally landed on a desolate island where five of the crew died from starvation, and from which the remainder were rescued on the 10th of August, by the schooner "Eagle" of the Falkland Islands, When takon off they were hardly able to stand. Returns Re-turns from Indiana are few, but look favorable for the Republicans. Connecticut Town Election!. Hartford, Conn.. 8. Out of 168 towns in the Slate, heard from, 68 elect tho entire Republican ticket; in 24 the offices of-fices are divided between the two parties, par-ties, The Democrats have gained eight towns which were totally Republican last year; and the Republicans have gained eight towns which last year were Democratic. Newark Charter Election. Nowark, N. J"., 9. The charter election elec-tion resulted in over 2,000 of a Republican Republi-can majority, a gain of nearly 1,000 over last year's charter election, and more than 3,000 over governor Parker's majority ma-jority of last November.
