Tho Presbyterian assembly committoo to consider the overtures from tbo Baltimore and Austin, Aus-tin, Texas, presbyteries, recommended the adoption of a solemn declaration in substance as follows; hrst.in view of the- resolution of two branches of the Presbyterian ohuroh in tho north, neither of which is responsible for the conduct of tho other; all action before the reunion, touchiog the southern assembly as-sembly or old sohool synod of Missouri is now null aud void, and the assembly oxpresses confidonco in tho soundness of doctrine and in tho Christian character char-acter of these brcthren.and hopes that more intimate oommunion tend to remove re-move tho barrier that time has established estab-lished between us and them ; second in regard to civil magistrates and tho relation of ohuroh and state tho oom-mittee oom-mittee sot forth tho declaration contained con-tained in the confession of faith and form of government of the church; and third they recommend the appointment appoint-ment of two committees to oonter with a similar committee from tho general assembly of the church south and the old school synod of Miseouri. The report and recommendations wcro unanimously adopted. Reports wore made on overtures from tho other presbytcrys relating principally to matters of local interest. Tho thirty-sixth thirty-sixth annual report of the board of foreign missions was then read reporting report-ing general prosperity during tho past year in all tho various missionary field?. The treasurer's report shows an indebtedness of $28, 695. |
