Show Tueatre. List night "Monte Christo" was being presented in excellent ex-cellent style, when, as Copt. Conkey used to say with approaohing night that there was "a darkness creeping over tho earth," tho light of gas faded from sight and darkness flung a black sheet over the building. A valve bad got out of order, everything about tho gus tnaehiuery being new ; but the delect de-lect was soon remedied and the performance per-formance proceeded under tho previous brilliancy ot illumination. ' Tho spectacular spec-tacular piroe was well rendered ; and so was "Perfection" after it, tho oomcdietta in tho hands of Mr. Chaplin, Chap-lin, Miss Walters, Messrs. Thome and Grahapi nnd Miss Jonas receiving ample am-ple justice. Mr. Chaplin has been ro-engagod for three nights longer, and to-morrow night will appear as Isaac m "Joseph and his Brethren," whioh by the tit lo ono would think something of the pious or scriptural drama. Miss Walters plays tho titlo role. The oast is good, and tho piece is highly spoken of. Mr. Chaplin is a talented and careful actor, and tho same commendatory commenda-tory language applies equally to Jean Clara Walters, a lady of high ability and great versatility. "Joseph and bis Brethren' bhould draw a erowded house, especially as the oirous has ceased operations and gone on a mining tour. |
