S,-hell was sent out Ui this camp, j by the Presbyterian denomination, as 1 a'Missionary. He has worked ardu- j oiisly and assiduously in behalf of his I Cnur.-h, and yesterday had the sn- j preme gratitieation of seeing a fine edinYe dodi rated and money enougli sub'ribcil by our citizens to free it fpvn debt. " j The chureh occupies one ot the nio-,t elegant and eligible sites in our 1 cit v. It is situatetl on a gentle ami un- ' pretending block north of Walker j street, commanding a tine view of the rafrm to the we-t, taking within its limits most of the principal mines of l E n:w Hill and vicinity. i The Rev. J. P. Si-heil commenced J ihe services by making a forcible and i touching prayer. Tlie Rev. .losiah j , Welch delivered the dedieakry cor-j mon, which wms listened to by the ' large congregation with profound in- j terc-t. The text was from the "th 1 chapter of Romans. Hth and 10th vera- I es inclusive. Tiie choir, led by Win. I Gill . Mills, discoursed sweet and liar-; monious music, which was appreciated appreci-ated and joined in by the assembly. At the close of the services, ns is usual in dedicatory ceremonies, a subscription was called for. Several of our pniinineut citizens responded by donating by subscription Ihe sum of S-JO. After the wealthy men of the camp had donated their cash, the pastor siiguerted that the hat be parsed pars-ed around to gather in the fragments. The fragmentary contribution was a good one, and resulted in a net cash production of SQli.oO. We now have a church uf which we can well feel proud. If the camp is ."drooping," a church looms up in our midst like a Fourth of July Liberty Lib-erty pole in a fog. It is paid for without with-out any outside assistance from our Purilan friends of tho East, for all of which we are duly gralefin, ARCHIBALD. |
