Show Petitions. Several petition were presented to tho city council last niglif, among them one from the livery stable keepers relative to keeping open on Sundays. The petition was tabled, tbo I council deciding that it had no right to make discriminating distinctions, and that such contingencies as might nriso under tho Sunday ordinance were 1 proper subjects for the sitting aldcr- ! man to decide on. A petition was also put in on behalf of tho butchers, stating that they would prefer tho place for slaughtering to be established near iho lime kilns north of the city; and a committee was appointed to see if tho necessary arrangements ar-rangements could bo mado to meet the expressed desire. |
