Show The Yellow Fever. ' New Orleans, lo. News from .Shreveport shows a horrible condition of affairs, and calls for further aid on the part of the people. To lend re- i lief more money and more nurses are needed. The Howard Association have been active and have acted with commendable promptness. They have already forwarded two physicians and mirnes,. and lat night they sent live more nurses. Several more left this afternoon. Mayor Wilbur this morning morn-ing received a telegram irom the mavor of Corpus Christi stating that the authorities of that town had determined deter-mined upon ft quarantine against all places in Texas, cast and north of Corpus Christi, and all points in Eastern Louisiana and l'lorula, The Board of Health reports thirty-nine thirty-nine eases of yellow fever up to Friday I night, and for the preceding ten days i there were ten cases, all whites. Today To-day up to 1 p. in., there are eight cases, all but one white. Trains arc leaving the city crowded, and business is paralyzed, Tho total number of dcaLhs to-day are thirteen, of whom nine died of yellow fever. It is cool to-night and some of the leading physicians think the disease will depart de-part in a few days. Advices from New Orleans state that the fever is raging there to a great extent. Advices from Shrcvcport report tliirty or forty deaths daily, and with a population of not over four thousand- Tho same correspondents say the disease also rages in tho country a distance of over twenty miles around Shrevcport, ' and is sweeping away negroes bv hundreds. |
