Show Oesophagotomy. This exceedingly exceeding-ly dc'icate and crilical .-urical operation opera-tion was performed jc-itrday upon a man at Sl Mark'shospital by Dr. Hamilton, Ham-ilton, assisted by Dr?. Bush, Benedict and Terry. The patient had swallowed a eet of teeth on a gold plate, which had lodged somewhere in the throat, and instead of the plate beiog brought out of the throat by the practitioner who first took the case in hand, it was forced down the oesophagus, or meat pipe, almost to the top of the stomach. The operation yesterday coo sb ted in making an incision on the right side of the throat downwards, opening the meat pipe, and removing the plate with a pair of forceps. As death was : certaiii had surgery not been resorted j to, the success of the operation is like rescuing a person from the grave. The patient last night was doing yery well, with Strang hopes of his recovery. |
