The senate committee commit-tee on elections, this morning, in the investigation in-vestigation into the election of Caldwell, senator from Kansas, examined at great length lieutenant Smith, Caldwell's partner in the banking business. Smith gavothe details of the arrangement made before the senatorial election between Caldwell, governor Carney and himself, him-self, by which Carney was to withdraw from tho senatorial oaedidaoy for $15,-0U0, $15,-0U0, paid him by Caldwell, who uose-quently uose-quently paid Carney in two installments of $10,000 and $5,000 respectively.
