Show Shooting Scrape at Ogden. The following from Ogden was re eeived by Deseret telegraph hist night : J The three card game which has fln'.irished here for gome time pa.-t, and.whieh fleeced its hundreds of victims vic-tims among the passengers over the road, was tmally broken up a couple of days aj;o, through the eilbrts ot a policeman who could not be bribed. Since then the gamblers have had quarrels among themselves in trying to settle their accounts. The serious encounter of this morning was antici pated F. L. Creek, one of the cappers, cap-pers, got ofl this morning's train, and tepped into the depot saloon, loaded his pistol, took a drink, told the barkeeper bar-keeper he or his widow would settle for it, and then went across to the Del-monico's Del-monico's saloon where ti. V. Loom is, Lhe dealer, was waiting for him. Loomis went and got his pistol and returned, when some rough language passed between them. Both' then stepped out on the walk, and at about ten paces npart commenced shooting. Three or four shots were fired at each, other. Loomis received one in the shoulder aud one in the leg. Creek was not hit, and came over to the depot and delivered himself up to the police. It is thought Loomis' wounds will not result fatally. Creek is the brother of the man who was assaulted in Ogden on Friday, Fri-day, by Loomis, for which the latter was fined $20 and costs. After surrendering sur-rendering to the officers, Creek was taken before Alderman Thompson, and his examination was set for Monday Mon-day morning at nine o'clock, his bunds being fixed at $3,000. Up to the time of the departure of the train for this city ho hod not obtained bondsmen, and was in jail. Late last evening we learned that the surgeons attending Loomis had held a consultation consul-tation and decided to amputate his leg above the knee, tho nature of the wound making it necessary. The other wound is not of a serious character. |
