Show LASTCIIAXCE AM) CAMP FLOYD MIXES. The following is clipped from the London "Mining World"of August 31: Last Chance (27th July). t-As I have already advised you, caving in of shaft has prevented the extraction of oie and seriously retarded development; you will observe by my former report that the workings wero limited, and, consequently, the reserve of ore small, all depending upon f uture rapid development. devel-opment. Had shaft remained in working work-ing order, we could have extended levels, lev-els, and opened out ore ground; as it is, our works are necessarily confined to clearing up and re-opening shaft, and driving on level to intersect lode, and considerable time must elapse before these operations can be effected, and profitable developments tako place. A baarding houso lor men has been erected, erect-ed, also a blacksmith's hop and assay Gfhce, and a good road to mine has been constructed. I havo lately taken assays of somo of ore laying about mouth of shaft, and it has gone as high as 430 in silver to the ton. Ore i; unquestionably richest yet discovered in Bingham canyon, and if mine i; opened up, and quantity of ore per daj named in former report extracted iron; it, profits will be large. We are push ing on adit level, and re-opening anc rc-dmbering shaft as rapidly as possi blc, but theso aro both operations re quirbag time, and I cannot see that re 1 turnsoforecan be promised under thret months at least, if everything goes wel in that time I hope to bo extending I levels in ore ground, with full cones o ; men from the bottom of the presen j shaft, and from tho end of the adi i level, vhcre it will intersect tho lode I I havo been making some cnquirici j respecting obtaining a loan of a l urnaci fur smelting ore, and in course of i week or two hope to report to you favor ably on this point. We could pur ahaso a site and ereot two furnaces fo about $15,000, but lam desirous be fore laying out any money in thi, direction, to be thoroughly satisfied a; I to what class of furnace is best calcu j lated to be most successful for treating these ores, and this can only be dom by practical test in furnace. There an furnaces of several kinds now running i in Salt Lake Valley, and 1 do not an ticipate that I shall have any trouble ii I making necessary trials. You may b i assured I shall not spend a dollar ii works until convinced which are mos appropriate to bo erected ; in thi meantime operations will be continuet with utmost vigor. Mine can be kep going all winter time without fear o snow interruptions, unless it is some thing unusual, and even then it woulc only bo for a short time. T. Max well." On the 23d inst. Board re ceived the following telegram: "Grount in tunnel much improved, shall com mencfi extracting ore about threi weeks." Camp Floyd (5th Aug)" Prif north from Bhaft No. 1 in hard ground only 9 feet made ; this drift in ore i: now in 30 feet. Drift north from No 3 is in 40 feet for the mouth. Dis tanoe 80 feet. Here vein is mixed will foreign matter, general appearance being be-ing good. On shaft No. 4, uwaitinj for whim; and I may deem it advisable advisa-ble to place whim on shaft. No. i sunk deeper. Incline No. 1 down 10: feet ; commenced on north side t stope, having a streak of ore 40 fee long, which assays 35, 50, 87 and a high as 128 dols. in silver. ;Drift nortl from inclino 2 in. ti'i feet, and stii) ii 'horse.' Incline No. 3 producing goo ore od each side. The drift easterl; from this incline is now 138 feet, am wo are just getting into some ore From last clear-cut No. 1 we are a!s getting good ore, with streaks of 'hors silver' throughout. For the month we hve put to pilo but 200 tons, am sent to mill 500, in order to make rooc for greater extractions of ore, and fu assorting same. Our tram-road work finely, taking up charcoal and timbc while bringing down ore. The tw horses and carts are all wo shall rc quire for furnishing tho mill with ore aud a small barn has been erected fo the hordes; the mine, therclore, look well. K B. Wilder." |
