Show A couple of weeks ago it was generally gen-erally held by the Republicans that the result of the elections io the great Sta'es which occur this day week, would strongly influence, if it did not go very far to decide, tho Presidential election. At that time they were confident con-fident or so expressed themselves of carrying Pennsylvania, Ohio and Illinois, Illi-nois, and most likely Indiana. That confidence is not so strong now, and the position taken is that even if Pennsylvania Penn-sylvania and Indiana elect Buckalew and Hendricks in October, they will give Grant a majority in November. The Democrats and Liberal Republicans, Republi-cans, on the other hand, have changed places with the Republicans, and be-, ginniDg to feel tolerably safe as regards Pennsylvania and Indiana, if not Ohio and Illinois, with a bare probability proba-bility of Nebraska, they straighten up and hint pretty strongly that" the 8th of October is likely to say who will get a majority of the electoral vote in November. |
