Show Afi an evidence of the vindictive- j ness which is displayed by the prose- i cuting officers of the third dislriot i court, on every opportunity, we give j tho following facts: On the arrest of mayor Wells and Mr. Stout yesterday , the court intimated very courteously that it rested with the marshal whether ' to allow them to remain in town under guard, or tako them to Camp Douglas; , hut Maxwell, who plays the role of assistant prosecuting attorney, was itn- 1 perativo that they should be taken to ' Camp. As the marshal probably, and not without reason, imagines that Maxwell,, and his comfrero, Baskin, run the court, he felt compelled to obey the mandate. The arrest was made on Saturday evening, when the question of bail could not be argued until Monday morning, and all the vindictivenCHB of a narrow minded bigotry must be manifested in heaping indignities upon men, whom these prosecuting officials apparently consider con-sider guilty without trial. If petty malice could :o further we would like to know it. |
