Richardson, Mrs. Sinclair and daughters, Mr. Packard and Mr. Bryant, Bry-ant, start east overland to-morrow. Hon. Edward Tompkins, of Oakland, Oak-land, brother-in-law to Gov. Haight, is invited to deliver tho oration on the 4th in this city. Tho Greenville gold mining company, com-pany, Plumas county, declared the first dividend of one dollar on the share to-day. Seven murderers, all of whom have been tried or committed for trial, are now in the county jail: viz, Laura D. Fair, Mary Jones, Ike Brollaw, Simon M. Cohen, Matthew Harrington, Ah Lee, aud Quong Choy. There are 2U7 prisoners in jail, including forty-six forty-six Chinese and seventeen women; fifty-four fifty-four aro known as old professional thieves. Harry Byrne, district attorney, who has been lying dangerously ill at Gilroy, has partially recovered and has returned to this city. The Republican county committee has decided to hold primaries from .12 noon to 8 p.m., on the 2-1 th, und ! elect by wards. Tho call for the clcc-i clcc-i tion of a new county committee is post-1 post-1 poned for the present. ; An old man named Hale, who has been in very distressed circumstances, started out this morning to sell some of his effects to raise money for his lodging bill, and had hardly stepped to Kearney street before he slipped and fell, breaking his leg below the knee. The race between "Billy Mazo" and "Defiance, ' ' pacers, at tho Pacific course to-day, was won by "Mazo" in three straight heats: 2.2S, 2.2S, 2.26 J. |
