Show Horrible Imttmakity. A poor negro, named Harris, who had been smitten by the small-pox, entered the town of Flint, in Michigan, and instead of meeting with humane treatment, was thrust into a railway car going south. Having no money to pay his fare, and admitting to the conductor that he had the small-pox, was put off the train to perish in the cold. He set out in the nitrht, through bitter cold weather, for the village of Holly, but was driven away by an officer at the muzzle of a loaded pistol. Sick, starving, starv-ing, freezing, and exhausted, he made his way through the snow to Pontiae, where he was graciously permitted to die in an old shed. |
