To-day a i large number of apprentices, consisting j for the greater part of boys from ! twelve to eighteen years of ago, ar-; ar-; ranged an Orange demonstration. They ! wero headed by Johnston, Member of Parliament, and John Rca, of Bel-j Bel-j fast. Tho apprentices attempted to form iu procession, in violation of the I proclamation issued by the authorities. The police, aided by a detachment of troops, interfered, amid yells and Sioties were Thrown oy'tho rioters at one another and the police and military. The Iliot Act was read without effect. The cavalry and police then charged and scattered tho crowd. Several were injured, but none were killed. A number of arrests havo taken place, including Johnston, and order is completely com-pletely restored. |
