Show Froji Little Cottonwood. Mr. Thomas Makcnsou, running Messrs. Jones & Pardee's furnace, Little Cottonwood, Cot-tonwood, called yesterday evening, and gave us the following facts: The furnace has now been running ninety days, with a force of twelve- men, and during that time has turned out two hundred and fifty tons of bullion, from about a thousand tons of ore. Some uf tho bullion, from tho Emma ore, goes as high as $500 a ton in silver. He has smelted different ores and mixed them so that they fluxed themselves, thus saving the cost of fluxing material. Alter tho ninety days operations the lining of tho furnace, which is of Red Butte sandstone, put in by Morris & Evans, is as good as when they commenced com-menced running. This is a strong testimony iJiivor of the superiority ol tho Red Butto rock, which Mr. Mak-enson Mak-enson considers superior to any brick yet brought to tho Territory, and to tho celebrated rock from Pancacke Mountain, .Nevada. Ho is a gentleman of largo experience who thoroughly understands his business, and his statement state-ment will carry weight. The furnace I has a capacity of about eighteen tons a day, and another one is to bo erected immediatclv. Mines arc being opened Dp all around there aDd develop well. Gold-bearing quartz has also been struck in the canon, from which good results are expected. |
