Show A SEW (!) MISERAL. The following letter to us explains itself. In your issue of July Sth. 1S71, I read a notice from Battle Mountain concerning an interesting mineral, very similar to malachite, when polished with a handkerchief, found in a copper mine near Battle Mountain. lou doubtless noticed its property of adhering ad-hering strongly to the tongue as if it were chiefly clay. This indaced me to suppose that it was an aluminate, but ; an analysis, which I made several months ago, showed that it is a silicate of copper, containing about 30 per cenL of copper. In appearance it differs dif-fers so much from tho known silicate, that it might be considered, so far as my knowledge goes, a new variety of silicate copper. I do not remember now the quantitive composition of this mineral; but will hand it over to you immediately on my return. I am very thankfui to F- H. for a sample of this ore. G. Ki'STEL.
